To ensure effective preparation for the COP and to give participants from Latin America and the Caribbean an opportunity to develop common positions on issues of priority interest to them, the I have the pleasure to inform you that the COP13 Regional Preparatory Meetings (Pre-COP13) will be held from 20 to 22 November 2019, in Bonn, Germany.

Pre-COP Meetings are being organized for the following CMS regions:

• Africa
• Asia
• Europe (non-EU Parties)
• Latin America and the Caribbean
• Oceania

The meetings, which will be conducted in English with interpretation into French and Spanish when necessary, will be taking place simultaneously, with some aspects to include all of the regional group, giving participants the opportunity to consult with delegates from outside their own region as well as with all secretariat staff, who will rotate through the different regional groups.

The meetings will focus on effective COP preparation and regional consultation. Beyond this, opportunities to strengthen the capacity in CMS implementation beyond COP13 will be discussed, as well as, CMS contribution to the post-2020 biodiversity framework.
