Sixth Meeting of the CMS Flyways Working Group (Online)

The Secretariat of the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS) is pleased to convene the Sixth Meeting of the CMS Working Group on Flyways (FWG6). The meeting will be held online on 22 September 2026, from 13h-15h CET.
This Meeting is open to members of the Flyways Working Group (FWG), thematic sub-group members, as well as invited external experts and stakeholders. This occasion will provide a platform to discuss recent developments, strengthen international cooperation, and advance the implementation of the Flyways Working Group Programme of Work (PoW) for 2026-2029.
Meeting objectives
The primary objectives of the meeting are to:
Elect officers;
Share updates on recent events and projects;
Discuss existing thematic subgroups and the establishment of new subgroups;
Identify priorities and next steps for the FWG;
Review FWG membership.
Background
The Flyways Working Group (FWG) was established in 2009 under the CMS Scientific Council. Most recently, the continuation of the FWG was mandated by the CMS COP 15throughResolution 12.11 (Rev.COP15) Flyways. The FWG Terms of Reference were approved by the Sessional Committee of the Scientific Council at its 8th meeting in December 2025.
Acting as a global think tank, the FWG addressesscientific, technical, and policyissues to safeguardmigratorybirds and theirhabitats. The Working Group focuses on flywaysworldwide and on all groups of CMS-listedmigratorybirdspecies: waterbirds, seabirds and landbirds (includingpasserines, raptors, grassland and forestbirds).
