Global Framework to Accelerate Action on Avian Influenza

Avian influenza is a shared challenge that crosses sectors, regions and borders. Its impacts extend beyond poultry and the people whose livelihoods depend on them, increasingly affecting wild birds, mammals, ecosystems and communities. As viruses continue to evolve and spread across regions and species, they pose significant risks to animal health, agrifood systems, biodiversity, ecosystems and human health.

These risks are interconnected, demanding that our response must be collective and coordinated. The health of animals, people and the environment cannot be separated. A weakness in one becomes a danger to all. Healthy, resilient ecosystems and sustainable agrifood systems are not a backdrop to health – they are its foundation. This is why a One Health approach, working across sectors at the human-animal-environment interface, is essential.

This framework is built on years of shared work, common learning and joint action. It sets out a common vision and a coherent foundation for strengthening how we prevent, prepare for, detect and respond to avian influenza – across sectors, borders and regions. Its value lies in bringing together distinct mandates and expertise, so that countries and partners can see where coordinated One Health action can have the greatest impact.
