2025/009: First Meeting of the Working Group on the Implementation of the Single Species Action Plan for the Angelshark (Squatina Squatina) in the Mediterranean Sea (Angelshark Med WG1)
The Secretariat is pleased to invite Range States and relevant stakeholders to the First Meeting of the Working Group on the Implementation of the Single Species Action Plan for the Angelshark (Squatina squatina) in the Mediterranean Sea (Angelshark Med WG1).
The meeting will take place in person only on 29–30 April 2025 at the Secretariat’s premises:

The meeting will be conducted in English and is open to representatives of Range States, including the members of the Angelshark Working Group, invited experts, observers from non-Range State Parties, relevant intergovernmental organisations and non-governmental organisations, subject to the availability of space.
Participants are kindly invited to register by 15 March 2025 at: Registration link
Each Range State may nominate up to two representatives (Governmental Focal Point and Technical Focal Point). A limited number of funded delegates and experts from non-governmental organisations may receive travel support.
Range States are invited to submit a brief report on the implementation of relevant activities using the attached reporting format by 1 April 2025 to the Secretariat at [email protected] (Cc: [email protected]) .
CMS Decisions 14.101 – 14.105 outline actions for implementing the Single Species Action Plan (SSAP) for the Angelshark (Squatina squatina) in the Mediterranean Sea. These actions apply to Party and non-Party Range States, intergovernmental Organisations, non-governmental Organisations, the Scientific Council, and the Secretariat. Key decisions addressed by the Working Group meeting include:
- Establishing a governance structure, including a Working Group of Range States as needed, to support implementation, monitor progress, and enhance cooperation and communication among Range States (Decision 14.101(c)).
- Submitting a brief implementation report on the SSAP Angelshark Med before the final meeting of the Sessional Committee prior to COP15, using a Secretariat-provided template (Decision 14.101(e)).
- Convening a meeting of Range States to drive implementation of priority actions and improve regional coordination (Decision 14.105(d)).
