2020/010: Call for Inputs to the Report on Stocktaking of Existing Activities to Address Marine Litter and Microplastics

The Secretariat of the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS) would like to inform Parties of the opportunity to implement CMS Decision 13.122 a). This Decision encourages Parties and CMS partners to submit relevant information on the implementation of CMS Resolution 12.20 Management of Marine Debris in response to requests made by the United Nations Environment Programme in relation to UN Environment Assembly Resolution 4/6. UNEP has set the deadline of 31 July 2020 for these voluntary inputs to the report on stocktaking of existing activities to reduce marine plastic litter and microplastics.

The report is being compiled in accordance with paragraph 7(a) of UN Environment Assembly Resolution 4/6 Marine plastic litter and microplastics, which requested the Ad Hoc Open-Ended Expert Group on Marine Litter and Microplastics to “[t]ake stock of existing activities and action by governments, regional and global instruments, international organizations, the private sector, non-governmental organizations and other relevant contributors to reduce marine plastic litter and microplastics with the aim of the long-term elimination of discharge into the oceans”.

The submissions should be made by 31 July 2020 through the website: https://papersmart.unon.org/resolution/stocktaking. Submissions received will be available online.
