Bustards (Otididae) are among the most threatened groups of terrestrial birds worldwide. Their populations are declining across their range due to habitat loss driven by agricultural expansion, pesticide use, infrastructure development, collisions, and illegal and unsustainable take. Addressing these cumulative pressures requires an urgent and coordinated response at global scale. 

 

The Bustard Multi-species Action Plan (MsAP) responds to this challenge. Developed within the framework of the African-Eurasian Migratory Landbird Action Plan (AEMLAP), by the Bustards Without Borders (BWB) consortium, and in consultation with experts, government representatives and non-governmental organizations, the MsAP covers all 26 species across 102 Range States and provides a science-based framework for coordinated conservation action. The side event will introduce the MsAP through expert presentations highlighting key threats, priority implementation measures, and examples of best practice worldwide.
