2025/032: Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES)

EXTERNAL REVIEW OF THE METHODOLOGICAL ASSESSMENT ON MONITORING BIODIVERSITY AND NATURE’S CONTRIBUTIONS TO PEOPLE

The Secretariat wishes to inform Parties and other stakeholders of IPBES Notification EM/2025/57, which announces the start of an external review of the methodological assessment on monitoring biodiversity and nature’s contributions to people. The review is open from 5 November 2025 to 
7 January 2026.

The IPBES Secretariat encourages governments and interested and qualified experts, including scientists, decision makers, practitioners and other knowledge holders, to participate in the external review. Information on online dialogues, which take place between 3 and 10 December 2025, is also provided through the Notification.

The Secretariat would like to bring Chapter 3 of the draft assessment to the attention of CMS Parties and stakeholders, in particular Section 3.2.1.2 Connectivity (pp. 11-18) and subsection on Migration (pp. 51-55) in section 3.2.2.1 Species – data to reliably assess ranges and distribution, which are the most relevant to CMS mandates.
