2025/021: Questionnaire for Parties Implementing COP14 Decisions on the Impact of Pastoralism on Migratory Species

The Notification relates to CMS Decisions 14.179–14.181 on Pastoralism and Migratory Species.

Under Decision 14.179, Parties are a) invited to carry out studies at the national level to assess the impact of transhumance on biodiversity, well-being, and the risk of zoonotic disease emergence at the human/wildlife/livestock interface, and b) are requested to submit to the Secretariat information on these studies and national measures for rangeland management and pastoralism, and share information on challenges, lessons learned and needs for further capacity development.

Decision 14.181 a) instructs the Secretariat to request Parties to submit information on national measures for rangeland management and pastoralism and share information on challenges, lessons learned and needs for further capacity development.

In line with these Decisions, Parties are asked to complete the online survey on Pastoralism and Migratory Species by 9 September 2025. This information will be analysed by the Scientific Council Working Group on Pastoralism and CMS-listed species, discussed at the next meeting of the CMS Sessional Committee of the Scientific Council, and presented at the 15th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP15).

Parties are encouraged to share this survey broadly with relevant government entities and with any partners or stakeholders who may have relevant information. The survey is available in English, French and Spanish.
