What:

The Convention on Migratory Species (CMS) will launch a major report on Climate Change and Migratory Species at a press conference at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP28).

Many of the world’s most iconic species are migratory, finely adapted to specific habitats that change with the seasons. For the first time, this new report finds that climate change is already impacting migratory species now. It also highlights the contributions of migratory animals to healthy functioning ecosystems and nature-based solutions.

The report ‘Climate change and migratory species: a review of impacts, conservation actions, indicators and ecosystem services’ was commissioned by the UK Government through the Joint Nature Conservation Committee (JNCC) as a major contribution to the work of CMS on climate change, and prepared by the British Trust for Ornithology (BTO).

It is being launched ahead of the CMS’s own 14th Conference of the Parties (COP14) set to take place 12-17 February 2024 in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.

When: 10th of December 2023 at 10:00 – 10:30 am GST

Where: UNFCCC COP28 Conference Venue, Dubai, UAE, Press Conference 1, Zone B8
