Second Official Joint Meeting of the CMS ITTEA and EAAFP Task Force on Illegal Hunting, Taking and Trade of Migratory Waterbirds

Background for the event

The CMS Asia Pacific Illegal Taking of Migratory Birds Intergovernmental Task Force (ITTEA) and the EAAFP Task Force on Illegal Hunting, Taking and Trade of Migratory Waterbirds will have our second official joint in-person meeting for in-depth discussion of recent progress and upcoming activities from the CMS Secretariat and implementing partners. This will be an in-person meeting preceding the EAAFP MOP12 in Cebu, Philippines at the Shangri-La Mactan Cebu, with a virtual attendance option. 

There will be significant time dedicated to discussion and critique of the draft of the scoreboard as a tool for fact-based, national self-assessments of progress in combating illegal take of migratory birds (ITB), to ensure that scoreboard elements reflect realistic objectives and scenarios that are faced by governments and stakeholders. 

Expected outcomes: 

The participants of the event will gain an understanding of the status of populations of priority species and the degree of threat from illegal take in insular Southeast Asia. They will also better understand what actions are being taken regionally and by the CMS Secretariat and its partners to identify where potential multilateral synergies may exist for future collaborations. Input from participants on the scoreboard will be collected so that a revision will better align with specific needs of government agencies and other professionals while still reflecting the objectives of the ITTEA Programme of Work. Significant developments and progress under CMS regarding ITB on a global scale and preparations for CMS COP15 will also be shared with participants.
