Fact Sheet on Safeguarding Species in Energy Planning
Ensuring that best practice and technical guidance for nature-safe renewable energy developments reaches the relevant players involved in the planning, funding, deployment, and monitoring of renewable energy infrastructures is vital.
CMS and the Agreement on the Conservation of African-Eurasian Migratory Waterbirds (AEWA) recognize the need to integrate the conservation of migratory species across the energy sector and have adopted several resolutions and guidelines to this end. Since 2016, the CMS Energy Task Force (ETF; established in accordance with Resolution 11.27 (Rev.COP13) Renewable Energy and Migratory Species) supports the implementation of environmental standards that would avoid negative impacts to migratory species.
