2016/030: Elements of Advice for the Global Environment Facility (GEF) concerning the Funding of the National Prioirities for CMS

The Secretariat of the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS) would like to remind you of the decision taken by the 44th Meeting of the CMS Standing Committee (October 2015) on elements of advice for the GEF concerning the funding of the national priorities for the CMS aligned with the Aichi Biodiversity Targets. This decision is enclosed to the present notification.

Following the CMS Resolution 11.10 and the CBD COP12 Decision XII/30, the CMS Secretariat transmitted such advice to the CBD Secretariat in time for their First meeting of the Subsidiary Body on Implementation and is being subsequently presented to the Thirteenth Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP13) for its consideration. These elements of advice are reproduced in Annex II of the UNEP/CBD/COP/13/12 “The Financial Mechanism”.

The Secretariat encourages the CMS national focal points to liaise with their CBD counterparts and ensure that such advice and any other provisions related to migratory species conservation are taken into account during any related negotiations at the forthcoming CBD COP13 and in the development of the four-year framework of programme priorities for the seventh replenishment period (2018-2022) of the GEF Trust Fund.
