Ongoing Core Activities

  1. Monitoring and Research: Countries are collaborating to gather comprehensive data on species distribution, population counts, abundance, and the conservation status of grassland biodiversity, including birds, frogs, butterflies, and other insects.
  2. Bird Ringing Program: An international bird ringing programme is being implemented, where small, individually numbered tags are attached to the birds’ legs to track their movements and identify threats along their flyways.
  3. Impact Studies: Studies is being conducted to assess the effects of chemicals and fertilizers on bird populations and overall grassland ecosystems.
  4. Capacity Building: Training courses on best practices and tailored conservation are being implemented to target educators, journalists, producers and rural associations to enhance knowledge and encourage sustainable conservation practices.
