The Fourth Meeting of Signatories (MOS4) of the Memorandum of Understanding on the Conservation and Management of the Middle-European Population of the Great Bustard (Otis tarda) will take place on 14-15 March 2018 in Bad Belzig, Brandenburg, Germany, back to back with an international scientific symposium on 12-13 March 2018.
The meeting is generously supported by contributions from the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety of Germany (BMUB) and the Ministry of Rural Development, Environment and Agriculture Brandenburg (MLUL). It will be co-organized by the CMS Secretariat and the Brandenburg State Office for Environment (LfU) with support from the Society for the Protection of Great Bustard e.V. (Förderverein Großtrappenschutz).
The MOS4 will discuss the progress in the conservation and management of the Middle-European Great Bustard population and adopt several important guidelines. The meeting will also provide the opportunity to Range States for signing the MOU, and thereby participating in the process to broaden and improve the cross-border conservation of the Great Bustard in central Europe.
For more information on documents, signature procedure, registration formalities and funding-related questions, please contact Mr Tilman Schneider at [email protected]
For the Scientific Symposium, local logistics and field trip, please contact Dr. Torsten Langgemach at [email protected]
You can register for this meeting until 26 January 2018.

UNEP/CMS/GB/MOS4 | Guidelines for Monitoring of Population Parameters of Great Bustard and of the Effects of Management Measures |
This guideline is focusing on the monitoring of Great Bustard populations, but it does not aim to provide a comprehensive overview of the available research techniques. The scope of this guideline is restricted to cover attributes of the population and its habitat which should be subject of regular surveillance in order to be able to detect threats and to trigger appropriate research and conservation measures when necessary. |
|
UNEP/CMS/GB/MOS4 | Guidelines for capturing and radio-tracking Great Bustards |
These guidelines were considered necessary because the Middle European population of Great Bustard sometimes suffer serious losses during winter migration and migration routes and winter movements are poorly known based on land based surveys. In addition, lack of reliable demographic information also hinders the evaluation and further development of conservation measures for the protection of the species. |
