Paragraphs 16 and 17 of the Raptors MOU Text, provide guidance on the functions of the Coordinating Unit of the Raptors MOU (Coordinating Unit).

The Coordinating Unit serves to assist communication, encourage reporting and facilitate activities between and among Signatories, other interested States and organisations. It also serves to make available to all Signatories the strategies and equivalent documents it receives from them, prepare overviews of progress in implementation of the Raptors MOU Action Plan, and perform such other functions as may be assigned by the Meeting of Signatories.

Under the Raptors MOU, Signatories commit to adopting and implementing measures to conserve migratory birds of prey and their habitats, for example, by
  • Providing a legal framework to protect migratory species and a network of habitats and sites along their flyways
  • Identifying important habitats, congregation sites and favoured routes
  • Supporting relevant research and monitoring of populations, and sharing results internationally, and
  • Developing cooperative international projects and initiatives to promote effective conservation efforts.
The Coordinating Unit is currently managing, facilitating and/or supporting the following core activities:
