Turtles and other Marine Megafauna Bycatch in Artisanal Fisheries in the Saudi waters of the Arabian Gulf.

Fisheries impacts on marine megafauna have received global attention and are recognized as a serious problem. In Saudi waters of the Arabian Gulf, the artisanal fishery is responsible for 99.6% of landings. It uses a range of boat sizes and various types of fishing gears and operates in all accessible areas from shallow coastal bays to deep offshore waters.

Sea Turtles Tourism in Oman: Current Status and Future Prospects

This paper provides an overview of the current status and future potentials of nature-based tourism in the Sultanate of Oman with particular focus on sea turtles at Ras Al Hadd. The paper uses objective yardsticks such as inbound tourist arrivals, nationality and spending patterns, seasonality, employment, as well as gross domestic product contribution derived from secondary data from national and international sources to appraise the current situation.

Status and Ecology of Sirenian, Cetaceans and Marine Turtles in the Farasan Bank, Red Sea, Saudi Arabia

This paper presents preliminary data regarding the status, general distribution and habitat use of cetaceans, sirenian and marine turtle species inhabiting the Farasan Bank in the south-east of the Red Sea. The survey was conducted in April 2009 as part of a joint project by the Khaled Bin Sultan Living Ocean Foundation and the Saudi Wildlife Authority.

Population Structure of Marine Turtles in Coastal Waters of Qatar

Knowledge of the interrelationships between habitats and life-stage development in marine turtles requires an understanding of recruitment, size and age at maturity, sex ratios, growth and sexual development rates, survivorship and nesting probabilities. These data may be used to determine the status and survival of turtle populations during earlier life stages and for the development of appropriate conservation strategies.
