Seagrass: Essential to Migratory Species and to Climate Change Mitigation

From the tropics to the Arctic circle, seagrasses are amongst the most widespread coastal habitats on the planet, existing in 159 countries. They are essential both for many migratory species of wild animals, as well as for climate change mitigation. Thousands of species depend on seagrasses for food, nursery grounds, and shelter.  Many others may use seagrass habitats as an important site for feeding along their migratory routes.

Thirty Years of Conservation Measures for Small Cetaceans in European Seas

Thursday 17 March 2022 marks the 30th anniversary of the Agreement on the Conservation of Small Cetaceans of the Baltic, North East Atlantic, Irish and North Seas (ASCOBANS) – a regional environmental treaty of the United Nations. Concerns over the impacts of human activities on small cetaceans led to the negotiation of ASCOBANS under the auspices of the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS). The Agreement was concluded on 17 March 1992 and has subsequently been signed by 10 countries.

La boîte à outils de recherche sur les dugongs et les herbiers considérée comme l’une des 25 meilleures innovations du gouvernement des Émirats arabes unis

La « Dugong and Seagrass Toolkit » (la boîte à outils de recherche sur les dugongs et les herbiers) a été sélectionnée comme l’une des 25 innovations les plus remarquables du secteur public des Émirats arabes unis par le Mohammed Bin Rashid Centre for Government Innovation. La liste a été arrêtée à l’issue d’une procédure de sélection et d’évaluation rigoureuse au cours de laquelle plusieurs candidats ont présenté leurs projets sur une période d’un an.
