Bonn, 21 August 2017 – The third pre-COP12 workshop took place at the UN Campus in Bonn from 15 to 17 August for participants representing Parties in Asia.

A wide range of topics relating to the agenda of the forthcoming CMS COP in Manila was discussed with a particular focus on the interests of the Asian region and across all taxa.  The closed session enabled Parties to make preliminary choices for regional representatives of the governing bodies and to discuss internally regional stand-points related to certain agenda items. Highlights of the workshop included a presentation by the two Sri Lankan participants on how the Convention was being implemented in their country, the threats to migration exercise and important topics such as the budget for the next triennium, sustainable tourism, climate change,  the proposals to add species to the Convention's appendices and concerted actions for the region.

Participants also had the opportunity of visiting Bonn’s noted Zoological Research Museum Alexander Koenig, where Professor Dr. Wägele, the director of the institution, explained the different exhibitions and led a behind-the-scenes tour.

The workshop was made possible thanks to a financial contribution from the European Commission under the Migratory Species Champion Programme and through the Global Public Goods and Challenges (GPGC Programme) Cooperation Agreements with UNEP.

The fourth and final workshop of the series – for the Oceania region – will take place in Brisbane from 28 to 30 August at the kind invitation of the Government of Australia.
