2012/030: Legal Framework for the CAF Waterbird Action Plan

A legal and institutional framework to support implementation of the Central Asian Flyway (CAF) Action Plan for the Conservation of Migratory Waterbirds and their Habitat was adopted by Central Asian countries at a meeting in Abu Dhabi, UAE, on 12 December 2012.

The preferred way forward to ensure the effective implementation of the CAF Waterbird Action Plan is through its incorporation into the Agreement on the Conservation of African-Eurasian Migratory Waterbirds (AEWA) and the expansion of the geographical area of AEWA to encompass the entire CAF region.

The Final Declaration adopted at the meeting requests the Contracting Parties to AEWA to consider the incorporation of the CAF Action Plan and the associated extension of the AEWA geographic area at the 6th session of the Meeting of the Parties to be held in 2015.
