2024/019: IPBES Spatial Planning Assessment: Call for Offers to Host the Technical Support Unit

The Secretariat of the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS) is pleased to inform CMS Parties and stakeholders that Governments and relevant organizations are invited to submit their offers to host the technical support unit for the IPBES spatial planning assessment by 15 October 2024, in line with the IPBES notification EM/2024/40. The undertaking of a fast-track methodological assessment of integrated biodiversity-inclusive spatial planning and ecological connectivity (“spatial planning assessment”) was  approved by the IPBES Plenary in decision IPBES-10/1,  as outlined in the scoping report for the assessment. Having an IPBES assessment on connectivity has long been a priority for CMS and interested Parties and stakeholders are therefore encouraged to consider this invitation.

Please also note the deadline of 17 September 2024 for external review of the IPBES methodological assessment of the impact and dependence of business on biodiversity and nature’s contributions to people (business and biodiversity assessment). More details are available in the relevant IPBES notification EM/2024/34.
