2023/008: Analysis of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework and Related CBD COP15 Decisions of Relevance for CMS

The Secretariat of the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS) is pleased to share an analysis of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) and related decisions that were adopted at the Fifteenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP15, Montreal, Canada, 7 - 19 December 2022) to CMS.

The analysis, which can be found here, demonstrates both how the GBF is highly relevant to achievement of the objectives and commitments under the CMS, and also how the work of the CMS can contribute to the achievement of the GBF.

To complement the analysis, a detailed list of the text extracts of the relevant CBD COP15 mandates, presented both in numerical order and grouped by key CMS priorities, can be found here.

This analysis also provides an essential input to the development of the follow up to the Strategic Plan for Migratory Species 2015-2023 as mandated by the 53rd Meeting of the CMS Standing Committee (UNEP/CMS/StC53/Outcome 2) and in line with Decisions 13.4-13.5
