2019/025: Call for Proposals for the African Elephant Fund

The Secretariat would like to inform the African Elephant Range States that the ninth round of calls for proposals for the African Elephant Fund (AEF) has been launched. The Range States are encouraged to submit project proposals to the AEF Secretariat ([email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]) by midnight on 14 February 2020, East African Time (EAT).

The proposed projects need to support the implementation of the African Elephant Action Plan (AEAP). The AEAP was endorsed as the principal strategy for the conservation of African Elephants by Resolution 12.19 Endorsement of the African Elephant Action Plan (AEAP) of the Twelfth Conference of the Parties (COP12, Manila, 2017).  

The AEF Steering Committee will evaluate the proposals during its 12th meeting to be held from 10 to 14 March 2020 in Entebbe, Uganda. All project proposals should meetthe following minimum requirements:

Project proposals must be submitted before the deadline;

  • The standard AEF project proposal template must be used;
  • All project proposals must be submitted by a Competent Authority or be accompanied by a letter of endorsement from the Competent Authority of a Range State;
  • A Competent Authority is a national Government entity responsible for wildlife;
  • A two-page executive summary of the project proposal must be provided both in English and French.

Non-governmental organizations that are interested in preparing project proposals are encouraged to liaise and work with the CMS Focal Points of the African Elephant Range States.
