2016/032: 2017 Funding Opportunities for Wildlife Conservation from the US

The Secretariat of the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS) is pleased to inform you of three forthcoming funding opportunities.

Two grants are within the United States Fish & Wildlife Service (USFWS) International Affairs programmes, namely:

  • Marine Turtle Conservation Fund– for the conservation of turtle species throughout their range outside of the United States and its territories. Submission deadline is 3 April 2017;
  • Africa – for the conservation of wildlife in Central Africa. Submission deadline is 17 January 2017.

Instructions for applicants can be found here.

The third grant is the 2017 Pacific Islands Region Marine Turtle Management and Conservation Program under the National Marine Fisheries Service of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). It supports conservation, protection, or
management actions supporting recovery of Endangered Species Act listed sea turtle species occurring within the Pacific Islands Region. Submission deadline is 15 February 2017.

Instructions for applicants can be found here.

These grants promote objectives that are consistent with those of the Convention and its specialized agreements and may thus provide a source of funding to assist CMS with the implementation of conservation activities on the ground.

The CMS Secretariat encourages its Parties and partners to propose projects that contribute to the implementation of the Convention and its instruments and will strive to support these proposals with letters of endorsement.

Anyone interested in submitting a grant application that supports CMS goals, is asked to please  contact:
