As announced with CMS Notification 2016/011 dated 4 May, the Twelfth Meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP12) and associated meetings will take place from 22 to 28 October 2017 in Manila, at the generous invitation of the Government of the Philippines.

While these events will be held in over a year’s time, the necessary preparations including logistical arrangements are well underway in close consultation and cooperation with the host country.

In view of the numerous delegates of countries eligible for financial assistance to attend the COP, the Secretariat is already issuing a call to the CMS community to make voluntary contributions to ensure maximum attendance and geographical representation.

Furthermore, to complement the efforts of the Government of the Philippines and the Secretariat to promote the COP both at national and international levels, significant resources are needed to guarantee an adequate coverage and dissemination of its results including through the reporting services of The Earth Negotiations Bulletin.

It has been estimated that US$1,000,000 is required to cover all these costs.   

The Secretariat invites Parties to explore any opportunity to allocate resources within their 2016 and/or 2017 budgets, depending on their fiscal years, to support the organization of COP12. We also encourage organizations to consider providing financial and/or in-kind contributions to help us cover any shortfalls.
