CMS is seeking to strategically develop its work to address the threat posed by all forms of marine pollution to migratory wildlife. This cross-disciplinary workshop is intended to bring together experts in the relevant fields to discuss the best way forward for the Convention.
The workshop will be held online over two three-hour sessions starting at 17:00 CEST on 28 May and 17:00 CEST on 30 May 2025.
The mandate for this workshop is enshrined in Decision 14.42 made at the last Conference of the Parties to CMS (COP14).
Pollution is not a new topic for CMS, and it has, for example, previously considered in some detail the threat posed by marine noise pollution to wildlife and this resulted amongst other things in the 'CMS Family Guidelines on Environmental Impact Assessments for Marine Noise-generating Activities'. CMS has also recently considered plastic pollution and light pollution.
Kindly note: Participation to the workshop is by invitation only. If you would like to contribute or have any questions related to the workshop, you can contact the Chair of the workshop, Mark P Simmonds, who is also the CMS COP-appointed Councillor for Marine Pollution.
