Harris Heng, of the University of Malaya, was presented the Best Poster Award in a student competition at the 4th Asia Pacific Coral Reef Symposium (APCRS) held from 4-8 June 2018 in Cebu, Philippines.

Project Seagrass have released a global version of their citizen science application SeagrassSpotter. The Dugong MOU Secretariat, together with Project Seagrass, encourages anyone visiting coastal areas or spending time in the ocean to keep a look out for seagrass and where spotted, to take a photo and upload it to SeagrassSpotter. Together, we can conserve seagrasses and the dugongs that rely on them.

Dr Donna Kwan from the CMS Dugong MOU Secretariat attended the third Important Marine Mammal Area (IMMA) workshop in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia from 12-16 March 2018. The workshop, held by the IUCN Marine Mammal Protected Areas Task Force, covered the North East Indian Ocean and South East Asian Seas region.

Dr Donna Kwan from the CMS Dugong MOU Secretariat attended the International Mermaid Symposium in Toba, Japan on 22-23 February 2018. The Symposium was hosted by Toba Aquarium, Mie University and Kyoto University and focused on the theme of ‘Dugongs: Global Status and Future’.
