Signatories to the CMS Bukhara Deer MOU adopt the new international work programme 2021-2026

In October 2021, the Signatories to the Memorandum of Understanding concerning Conservation and Restoration of the Bukhara Deer (Cervus elaphus bactrianus) (Bukhara Deer MOU) agreed on a new set of measures by adopting the international Work Programme 2021-2026 for the Bukhara Deer via correspondence. The preparation of the Work Programme started well in advance. In October 2020 the expert workshop under the Bukhara Deer MOU the took place online. It was organized by the CMS Secretariat in cooperation with the International Academy for Nature Conservation of the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation with funding from the German Ministry of the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety and Consumer protection (BMUV). The main goal was to discuss the status of the MOU implementation and to agree on priority measures for the years to come. WWF Russia involving other experts and MOU Signatories, and with the financial support from BMUV prepared the drafts of the main output documents on behalf of the CMS Secretariat: the Overview Report, the Work Programme for Bukhara Deer 2021-2026 and the new National Reporting Format. The workshop was initially planned as the Meeting of Signatories to the Bukhara Deer MOU (MOS2), which was to discuss, revise and adopt these documents. This was not possible due to Covid-related restrictions and the impossibility for some Signatories to take part in the online meeting. The technical workshop was organized instead, which discussed and revised the documents. The CMS Secretariat subsequently facilitated the adoption of all  the documents by Bukhara MOU Signatories via correspondence. The Overview Report, the Work Programme for Bukhara Deer 2021-2026 and the new National Reporting Format as adopted by the Signatories can be found under the Meeting Outcomes.
