On
the occasion of the eighth meeting of the Conference of
the Parties to the Convention on Migratory Species (CMS),
to be held in Nairobi from 20 to 26 November 2005, the CMS
Secretariat is organizing a “CMS Partnership
Fair: On the move to 2010”, an evening event
which will gather main CMS partners to discuss existing
and potential new alliances. We have now brought the event
forward to Monday, 21 November 2005 (18:00-22:00).
The Secretariat invites NGOs and IGOs to participate in
the event, and present relevant work undertaken and planned
on the conservation and sustainable use of migratory species,
including existing or planned collaborations with CMS. The
meeting will discuss how partnerships could assist with
the achievement of the 2010 target of significantly reducing
biodiversity loss and provide an overview of different avenues
for collaboration. Organizations will also be invited to
display and distribute their outreach material to all participants,
in order to exchange information on the respective areas
of interest with other potential partners.
As this will be an excellent opportunity to inform countries
on ongoing and planned joint activities between CMS and
other biodiversity-related organizations, all participants
in the COP meeting will also be invited to attend.
We are writing to you to ascertain your interest in participating
in the event, as we are currently preparing the programme
for the evening. Should you find the proposal of interest,
we would be grateful if you could also communicate to us
whether you will deliver a presentation or you will only
attend the event.
A preliminary programme for the event will be circulated
by early September.
We hope you will be able to participate in the event and
we look forward to hearing from you.
