Bonn,
11 October 2012 - The Convention on Migratory Species
and its daughter agreements focus on the conservation of
migratory animals and the habitats they frequent on their
journeys. Given the large number of avian species on the
CMS Appendices and the number of instruments dealing with
birds, the conservation of flyways is one of the key objectives
of the Convention. Finding ways to conserve migratory bird
species and their habitats entails taking tough decisions
in order to achieve sustainable land use and promoting practices
that balance human needs with those of nature.
The second edition of the CMS publication
‘A Bird’s Eye View on Flyways’ is now
available online. This publication provides a valuable guide
to the wonders of bird migration, featuring the many challenges
that these birds face and, more importantly, the many initiatives
underway to promote the survival of migratory species and
their environment.
Due to high demand for the first edition,
the Secretariat has updated the information and shortened
the text slightly to make it more user-friendly. Printed
copies can be obtained free-of-charge from the Secretariat.
