Bonn, 20 June 2012 - The CMS Secretariat has learned with deep regret and sadness of the sudden death of Kholmumin Safarov, Committee for Environment Protection in Tajikistan. He was shot by unknown criminals on his way home in Dushanbe on June 15, 2012.

Given his tireless efforts over the years, his loss is a severe blow to the cause of nature and species conservation. In his capacity as CMS National Focal Point, he significantly contributed to strengthening transboundary conservation of migratory species both in Tajikistan and on international level. The CMS Secretariat would like to extend its heartfelt condolences to his friends and family.
