Bonn, 11 September – CMS and its partners today launched the official video for the Year of the Dolphin with spectacular scenes of these marine mammals, which is meant to promote dolphin conservation. The 3½ minute video is available for download on www.yod2007.org with a link to the internet portal iTunes and can be downloaded for a fee of 2,49 EUR or equivalent, 40% of which will go towards dolphin projects. iTunes’ global reach guarantees the best possible commercial success for the benefit of the dolphins.

The initiative for this project came from Year of the Dolphin supporter, Oceanlounge Records. The professionally-shot under-water scenes derive from Scubazoo. Scubazoo agreed to make a video to accompany the song “Dolphin of Bali 2007” with film footage and to share the profits. The catchy chill-out music of Jornada del Sol and the spoken intro evoke the connection between life in the water and on land.

Downloads are already available in several countries. Among them are Japan, Australia and the Netherlands. By using the video intensively during the extended YoD campaign, CMS and its partners hope to raise awareness and support for conservation projects. These could for example benefit the highly endangered Ganges Dolphin in South-East Asia.

Forty percent of the net profit from the sales will be donated to the Year of the Dolphin Campaign. Thanks to the video, sales of the song “Dolphins of Bali 2007” should also rise and, half the additional profit will be donated to CMS.

CMS and its founding partners of the Year of the Dolphin, the Agreements ACCOBAMS and ASCOBANS, the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society (WDCS) and TUI AG will use this video for presentations at conferences, seminars and other events as well as for educational material for children and adults.

Robert Hepworth, Executive Secretary of CMS said “This exciting new video underlines the need to redouble our efforts to protect these dolphins as magnificent ambassadors for our ocean environment.”
