To
mark the 10th anniversary of the Agreement on the Conservation
of African-Eurasian Migratory Waterbirds (AEWA)
the Standing Committee of AEWA has established the
AEWA Waterbird Conservation Award in order to recognise
and honour institutions and individuals within the Agreement
area that have significantly contributed towards the conservation
and sustainable use of waterbirds. The award will be presented
triennially at each ordinary session of the Meeting of the
Parties. The first round will take place in 2005 and the first
prizes will be awarded at the opening ceremony of the 3rd
Session of the Meeting of the Parties in late October 2005
in Dakar, Senegal.
As decided by the Standing Committee, the AEWA Award 2005
will be presented in two categories –
institutional and individual,
and in addition each of the winners will receive
a cash prize of US $5,000.
We welcome nominations of government and non-government
organisations, enterprises and individuals, that have made
a significant contribution towards long-term conservation
and sustainable use of waterbirds, especially pioneer initiatives
or ones that serve as models for others.
Nominations should be received by the UNEP/AEWA
Secretariat not later than 30 April 2005. All nominations
should be submitted using the attached AEWA Award Nomination
Form, which is also downloadable here
from the AEWA web site or available on a request from the
UNEP/AEWA Secretariat in electronic form or hard copy. Before
filling out the nomination form please read carefully the
criteria and procedures available here.
The final decision on the award winners will be made by
the Standing Committee.
