Bonn,
21 May 2004. On the initiative of the German Federal
Ministry of the Environment, the Museum Alexander Koenig
celebrated the 25th Anniversaries of three important international
instruments for nature conservation: The Convention on the
Conservation of Migratory Species (CMS), The Convention
on the Conservation of European Wildlife and Natural Habitats
(Bern Convention) and the EC Bird Directive.
The 4 days programme started with a workshop entitled:
Migratory Species: linking ecosystems and disciplines
("Natur ohne Grenzen"). Scientists of the Museum
Koenig met representatives of institutions which organise
rojects dealing with endangered migratory birds, such as
Lesser white-fronted geese, Golden eagles and migratory
fish.
During
the programme a special focus was also given to CMS and
its relevant Agreements. The heads of the Agreement Secretariats
AEWA, ASCOBANS and EUROBATS gave interviews during public
events and a special programme geared towards children was
organized by the Museum. The Museum festival was a great
success for both the participants of the Symposium and the
people of Bonn and its surroundings.
The CMS Secretariat expresses its thanks and recognition
to all those who helped organize the event, in particular
to Mr. Jochen Flasbarth, Mr. Heiner Spanier and to the Museum
Koenig staff under the lead of Prof. Dr. Boehme, Dr. Klaus
Riede (Manager of GROMS) and Ms Sabine Heine (Public Relations).
