The
10th Meeting of the ASCOBANS Advisory Committee is taking
place at the Rheinhotel Dreesen in Bonn, Germany. It will
be a decisive meeting, as it is the last AC meeting prior
to the 4th ASCOBANS Meeting of the Parties in August of
this year.
On this occasion UNEP Executive Director Dr Klaus Töpfer
has sent a welcoming address highlighting ASCOBANS’
important role in calling attention to the dramatic decline
in populations and working towards reducing threats due
to human activities. Thus the Agreement on the Conservation
of Small Cetaceans of the Baltic and North Seas contributes
considerably to achieving a human lifestyle based on ecological
and sustainable use of natural resources. [ Click
