The
26th Meeting of the CMS Standing Committee met in Bonn, Germany,
from 17 to 18 July. It was hosted by and took place in the
German Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and
Nuclear Safety. Preparations with regard to the 25th Anniversary
in 2004 of the conclusion of the Convention in Bonn (1979)
were on the agenda. The state of collaboration with other
international organisations, the work on the implementation
of CMS Agreements and MOUs as well as the development of further
Agreements, the development of Strategic Plans for the work
of the Scientific Council as well as for the future implementation
and development of the Convention were among the key topics
of the meeting.
Moreover, the CMS Standing Committee reviewed the current
status of the Trust Fund contributions, the budget and resources
and decided on work priorities of the secretariat and the
allocation of funds for them. Finally, the dates and venues
of the next meetings of the Conference of the Parties, the
Scientific Council and the Standing Committee were discussed.
The Standing Committee members and guests from governmental
and local authorities, embassies, UN agencies in Bonn,
other IGOs, NGOs and media were invited by the Lord Mayor
of Bonn to a reception in the Old Town Hall.
