The
Hague, 19 April. The sixth meeting of the Conference of
Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP)
adopted a decision recognising CMS as its lead partner in
conserving and sustainably using migratory species over
their entire range. CMS was also recognised as providing
an international legal framework through which range States
can cooperate on migratory species issues.
The CBD/CMS
Joint Work Programme (JWP) is a cornerstone of the evolving
CBD-CMS partnership. The CBD COP welcomed and endorsed the
JWP in its decision. Prior to the discussion on the JWP,
CMS Executive Secretary Arnulf Mueller-Helmbrecht (right)
made a presentation on CMS for the benefit of CBD delegates.
