- Bonn, 24 October. All UN-member states celebrate
the anniversary of its charter, which entered in effect
on 24 October 1945 on the "UN-Day". The City of Bonn celebrated
for the seventh time its annual UN-Day with a manifold
information programme for children and adults
.

- Various UN agencies based in Bonn such as the German
Society for the United Nations, the Foreign Office, the
Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development
as well as German organisations dealing with international
development projects introduced themselves to the public.
The tents with information booths and colourful exhibitions
were displayed on the Market Square in front of the Old
Town Hall.

- The CMS Secretariat shared an exhibition tent with the
German Office of the United Nations Information Centre
(UNIC), the Secretariat of the Convention
to
Combat Desertification (UNCCD) and United Nations Volunteers
(UNV).

- CMS presented its
newly designed exhibition explaining the aims,
purposes and activities of the Convention and its Agreements
and Memoranda of Understanding.

- The German Federal President Johannes
Rau (pictured above and left) and the Lady Mayor
of the City of Bonn, Bärbel Dieckmann, who were both
patrons of the UN-Day, started their circuit with a visit
to the CMS booth.
