CMS Secretariat is pleased to announced that the membership
of CMS has grown to 75 Parties as of 1 September 2001 with
the accession of the Republic of Albania.
The State of Albania covers an area of approx. 28,748 sq
km and is situated in southeastern Europe between Greece,
The Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and Yugoslavia.
Albania's terrain consists mostly of mountains and hills
and small plains along the Adriatic and Ionian Sea coastlines.
A few large lakes, one of them the deepest in the Balkans
(Lake Ohrid, at 294m or 931ft) stretch along the country's
borders.
