At the first Meeting of the Parties to AEWA last November, delegates decided that the Secretariat of this Agreement should work under the blue flag of the United Nations. Bert Lenten from the Netherlands who served as Interim Secretary, has been appointed Executive Secretary and will take up his post on 17 July. The Secretariat will be collocated with the CMS Secretariat in Bonn, Germany. This will further enhance co-operation between CMS and AEWA.

Similar moves are being considered at the forthcoming MOP’s of EUROBATS and ASCOBANS, which are being held from 24 - 26 and 26 - 28 July respectively.
