28 March 2013 - The United States Fish & Wildlife
Service’s Division of International Conservation works
with partners worldwide to conserve fish, wildlife, plants
and their habitats, and maintain the integrity of ecological
processes beyond our borders, for present and future generations.
Through its Wildlife Without Borders
programme the USFWS has provided over 2,700 grants for international
conservation totaling more than $100 million since 1989.
As such, USFWS has worked with nearly 700 partners in developing
countries, who have contributed more than $200 million in
matching support for grant projects, tripling the impact
of programme funding.

These USFWS international conservation
funds cover a range of animal groups, regions and thematic
priorities, each with distinct grant cycles and guidelines.

respective deadlines can be accessed here.
Many of these grant programmes promote objectives that are
consistent with those of the Convention on Migratory Species
(CMS) and its specialized agreements and may thus provide
a source of funding to assist CMS with the implementation
of conservation activities on the ground. One forthcoming
funding opportunity is the Critically Endangered
Animals Conservation Fund (CEACF) which provides
funding for projects that work to protect species that meet
the criteria to be listed as “Critically Endangered,”
“Endangered” or “Data Deficient”
on IUCN Red List in Africa, Asia, South America and Oceania.
The deadline for applying for a CEACF grant is 1
May.

The CMS Secretariat encourages its Parties
and partners to propose projects that contribute to the
implementation of the Convention and its instruments, in
line with any plans, actions or initiatives developed under
them, and will strive to support these proposals with letters
of endorsement.

The Secretariat will continue to provide
information notices about upcoming USFWS Grant deadlines
as well as other potential funding opportunities.
