2014/017: Benefit Concert in Support of the World Migratory Bird Day Campaign

Following Notification 2014/008 which announced that a benefit concert will be held to mark World Migratory Bird Day, on Saturday, 10 May in the Evangelische Kreuzkirche, Bonn, the CMS Secretariat is pleased to share with you the programme of the concert and further information about the event which can be found at the dedicated web page.

For those who will not be able to attend the concert but wish to support our cause, donations can be made to the account indicated on the web page.

All proceeds from the concert will be given to a project in support of the conservation of the White-winged Flufftail (Sarothrura ayresi). This species has been recently upgraded to ‘Critically Endangered’ on the IUCN Red List as the population is estimated at less than 250 adult individuals restricted to Ethiopia and South Africa. An Action Plan between CMS and the Agreement on the Conservation of African-Eurasian Migratory Waterbirds (AEWA) was adopted by the CMS Conference of the Parties in 2008. In this context, a project aimed at reducing and reversing habitat loss and degradation, human disturbance and nest loss, and which will carry out surveys in search of new breeding sites and raise the awareness of local communities, was sponsored by the AEWA Small Grants Fund in Ethiopia.

Proceeds from the concert will be used to continue the ongoing efforts towards the habitat conservation and survey work of the Flufftail breeding sites in Ethiopia.
