World Wetlands Day

Bonn,
2 February 2011
- Wetlands are some of the most
diverse and productive ecosystems on our planet. Throughout
the last 40 years Parties to the Ramsar Convention have
designated sites which form a global network of important
wetlands to conserve ecosystems and their species.

Wetlands are an important habitat for an
immense variety of species ranging from plants, insects,
freshwater fish, amphibians, marine turtles, mammals and
birds. During their migration many animals use wetlands
as resting, breeding and feeding sites.
