2015/005: CBD Notification SCBD/SAM/DC/RH/LJ/

The Secretariat of the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals is pleased to draw to Parties’ attention to a Notification issued by the CBD Secretariat.

CBD’s Notification SCBD/SAM/DC/RH/LJ/84166 of 30 January 2015 on “Request for updated information from Parties and partners on recent actions and plans related to the conservation of migratory bird species”, which relates with the Arctic Migratory Birds Initiative (AMBI) of the Arctic Council’s Conservation of Arctic Flora and Fauna Working Group (CAFF), with the objective of improving the conservation outcomes of migratory birds that breed in the Arctic throughout their life cycle.

The CMS Secretariat wishes to reiterate the importance of this Notification and takes the opportunity to highlight Resolution 11.14 on “Programme of work on migratory birds and flyways” which requests the Secretariat to liaise with the secretariats of relevant MEAs and to strengthen links with CAFF and AMBI to capitalize on the flyway approach in gaining global support for the conservation of the arctic environment.
