A Seagrass and Dugong Technical Workshop will be held from 15 to 16 March 2017 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The workshop will be co-hosted by the Environment - Agency Abu Dhabi and the Secretariat of the Memorandum of Understanding on the Conservation and Management of Dugongs and their Habitats throughout their Range (Dugong MOU). The workshop will be highly interactive and of relevance to researchers, conservation practitioners and marine resource managers.
The workshop will provide training and guidance from leading experts on when and how to apply currently available and emerging research tools and methods for the conservation of seagrass ecosystems and associated biodiversity, such as dugongs. The workshop will encourage the collection of standardised and scientifically robust data on dugong populations, seagrass ecosystems and the related coastal communities. Participants will have the opportunity to work through practical real-world examples of seagrass and dugong research scenarios to identify the most appropriate methodology to use in a given situation.
The workshop will also offer guidance in fund-raising and communications to help organisations to secure ongoing funding for their dugong and seagrass projects, and to promote and showcase the work they are already doing.
The workshop is open to self-funded participants who can make their own travel and visa arrangements. A block booking for hotel accommodation at the workshop venue will be available.
Please use the online pre-registration form if you are interested in attending the workshop. Kindly note the Dugong MOU Secretariat is unable to financially support any attendance.
