Seagrass and Dugong Technical Workshop to be held in March 2017 in Abu Dhabi

 

Abu Dhabi, 13 October 2016 - The Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi (EAD) together with the CMS Dugong MOU Secretariat are pleased to announce that a Seagrass and Dugong Technical Workshop will be held in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates,on 15-16 March 2017. The workshop will be highly interactive and of relevance to researchers, conservation practitioners and marine resource managers. 

The workshop will provide training and guidance from leading experts on when and how to apply currently available and emerging research tools and methods for the conservation of seagrass ecosystems and associated biodiversity, such as dugongs. The workshop will encourage the collection of standardised and scientifically robust data on dugong populations, seagrass ecosystems and the related coastal communities. Participants will have the opportunity to work through practical real-world examples of seagrass and dugong research scenarios to identify the most appropriate methodology to use in a given situation. 

The workshop will also offer guidance in fund-raising and communications to help organisations to secure ongoing funding for their dugong and seagrass projects, and to promote and showcase the work they are already doing.

The workshop is open to self-funded participants who can make their own travel and visa arrangements.  A block booking for hotel accommodation at the workshop venue will be available.
